Introduction
What is Gravitybox Schedule.NET Enterprise Server?
Gravitybox Schedule.NET Enterprise Server is set of components that enhance the
Schedule.NET client component. The client control is used to add scheduling
functionality to any .NET application. It provides very robust functionality to users for
scheduling appointments for almost any situation. In the past, its shortcoming was that
is was a standalone component that did cannot coordinate with other scheduling
components.
This deficit of functionality is filled with the Enterprise Server. In essence it is a web
service that runs on a server machine synchronizing multiple schedule client
components. You may place the Enterprise Server on a public machine on the Internet
or a corporate intranet to which your client applications have access. Each client
application informs the server of a change in its data when appropriate. The server then
relays the change to all connected clients.
This functionality allows you to build truly enterprise level software to run an
organization. Any number of clients may be coordinated in this way. Also you have the
assurance that any changes to a client are almost immediately available to all registered
clients.
The configuration is defined in the graphic above. It shows a web server and database
server machine. These may be the same or separate physical machines. The database
server hosts a SQL Server database as the repository of information. The web server
hosts a website that coordinates client requests and the database. Client applications
send modified data to the web server or requests updated information from the web
